Born in Girona, Spain, Maria Canyigueral studied in the Conservatorio Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona with Michel Wagemans, with André de Groote in Brussels and Nino Kereselidze in Madrid.

In 2011 she moved to London, her current residence, where she completed a Master of Arts in Performance at the Royal Academy of Music in London, studying piano with Prof. Sulamita Aronovsky. Her studies were generously supported by the foundation Agustí Pedro i Pons and she graduated obtaining the Dorothy Bryant Award.

As a soloist, she has been finalist in the XII Concours International de piano d’ Ille de France (2010) and in the XI Festival de joves músics de Catalunya (2008).
 

Maria has performed both as a solo pianist (and as soloist with orchestra) and as chamber musician in numerous prestigious venues, including the Saló dels Miralls of Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Auditorium Caixa Forum, the Auditorium La Pedrera in Barcelona, St Martin in the Fields, Fundación Juan March (Madrid), St. James's Piccadilly, among others. Some of her performances have been broadcasted by Radio Catalunya Música, UPV RadioTelevision and BTV.

 

In 2013, she did the UK Premiére of “Sí, a Montsalvatge” by Benet Casablancas in the Regent Hall (London). She has collaborated several times with the Iberian Latin American Music Society (ILAMS), "the first and only organisation dedicated to the study, performance and promotion of Iberian and Latin American classical music in the UK".Maria is also in great demand as an experienced chamber music player. From 2009 she has collaborated with the violinist Maria Florea (“original and refreshing, representing the strength of the new generation of musicians”. Jorge de Persia. La Vanguardia).

 

With the violinist Marisol Lee, they won the second prize in the Wifrid Parry Prize (London, 2012).

Together with the cellist Mathias Johansen, they were one of the six ensembles, out of 87, selected to participate in the chamber music festival Fundación Monteleón 2013. Maria is also a member founder of the Ianthe Ensemble. They won the second prize in the Max Pirani Trio Prize (2013). Working closely with the Spanish-Catalan composer Víctor Estapé he has composed "Windows of Meaning" (2014) dedicated especially for the ensemble, which, recently, they premiered in the Festival "Músicos del Mundo", organized by Fundación Eutherpe.Together with the cellist Alex Rolton, they won the second prize in the "Concurso Internacional de Música de Cámara Antón García Abril" (May 2014. Granada, Spain).

She recently record a CD together with the violinist Lana Trotovsek, for Hedone Records.
